Culture
The key cultural features of the bilateral Hungarian and Lithuanian relations:
In 1994 dr. Endre Bojtár, literature researcher was awarded the first rate of the order of Gediminas, the Grand Duke of Lithuania. As an acknowledgment for their efforts to strengthen the bilateral cultural relations Paulius Normantas and Janina Isganaityte received a Pro Cultura Hungariae medal. Still in 1994 Bathory memorial table was inaugurated in the Vilnius University with a Hungarian contribution. Almost simultaneously, this academic institution first named after the Hungarian Grand Duke brought alive a Hungarian language course which has been functioning since 1994. There is a lector with Lithuanian citizenship assisting to teach the Lithuanian language on Eötvös Lóránd University of Sciences in Budapest. Hungarian universities host yearly 15-20 Lithuanian citizens carrying out studies in Hungary. It is the Tallinn-based Hungarian Cultural Institute’s task in co-operation with the Hungarian embassy in Vilnius to attend and look after the cultural relations between our countries.
