Hungarian-Lithuanian business matchmaking in Kaunas

Enterprise Europe Network offices of ITD Hungary, the Hungarian Investment and trade Development Agency as well as Kaunas Chamber of Commerce and Industry are jointly organizing a business forum and Hungarian – Lithuanian business matchmaking on 25th March 2010 in Hotel Kaunas (Laisvės al. 79, Kaunas). It is to note that lately Kaunas city is especially active in the bilateral Hungarian – Lithuanian economic relations.

Based on the information received from Ágoston Sarlós, general manager of UAB ECC Consulting Baltic, the local contracted partner of ITD Hungary and simultaneously, the General Secretary of the Lithuanian – Hungarian Chamber of Commerce the 6 participants of the Hungarian business delegation operate in various business fields such as the urban vehicle production, the paper, the meat processing industry, the microbiology, the textile industry as well as the agriculture machine industry. Hungarian participants and their activity portfolios are as follows:

Mr. Sarlós says that owing to its size the Lithuanian market is ideal for the co-operation of small and medium size entrepreneurs. However, neither the Hungarian, nor the Lithuanian economic opportunities are exploited to a sufficient extent. The Lithuanian – Hungarian Chamber of Commerce which started its activity in February 2010 is determined to make progresses to change this situation. Before the business matchmaking there will be a business forum held on which there will be short lectures given by the Kaunas Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Kaunas Free Economic Zone (FEZ) and the Chairman of the Board of the Lithuanian – Hungarian mixed Chamber about the business opportunities of Lithuania and within this focussing on Kaunas and its region. The programme organised and financed by the local offices of the Enterprise Europe Network will be closed by a gala dinner with short lectures reflecting our common cultural heritages, on which event among the prominent guests H.E. Mr. Péter Noszkó-Horváth, the Hungarian ambassador and his assistant, Mr. Ferenc Blaumann, Charges d’Affairs as well as other high ranked officials of the Kaunas Municipality and the Kaunas Chamber of Commerce and Industry also confirmed their participation.

According to the preliminary trade statistics based on the period of 2009 01-12 months Hungarian exports made out approx. 134,8 million euros (mainly various processed goods such as medicines, household cleaning chemicals, chemical raw materials, telecommunication products, electronics, as well as electrical appliances, vehicle, foodstuff, plastic goods, paper products). During the same period imports from Lithuania made out 39,9 million euros only.
