Visit to Naujoji Akmené

On 22nd March, 2011 H.E. Mr. Péter Noszkó-Horváth, Hungarian Ambassador and the General Secretary of the Lithuanian – Hungarian Chamber of Commerce paid a visit to Akmene District Municipality where they met Mayor Vitalijus Mitrofanovas and its deputy Raimondas Bitinas. During the discussions it was emphasized that Hungary backed by its embassy in Vilnius and the LHCC would like to strengthen economic, touristic and cultural relations with Akmene region.

The short meeting with the municipality leaders was followed by a business forum organized by the local Business Association in the presence of the local press and TV. A short PP presentation on Akmene economic potentials was followed by questions of business people who attended the event. LHCC General Secretary encouraged farmers and promised economic assistance them to sell their products to Hungary. They were also invited to join our association. As a concrete business cooperation proposal, the idea of a Hungarian midibus assembly plant in Akmene region was raised whereas the Hungarian Csaba Metal company would send semi-finished Urbanus midibuses + assembling technology to carry out the final assembly in Akmene region. Since these vehicles are destined for distribution in the Baltic region, the future industrial plant in Akmene would create new jobs and would bring state-of-art technology to the region with third market (export) selling potentials.

The Hungarian delegation also paid a short visit to the local industrial park and the leading industrial enterprises: Akmenes Cementas (cement factory) and Eternit Baltic (roof tile) production companies.

Akmenes Cementas was invited to join the Lithuanian – Hungarian Chamber of Commerce.

As result of our efforts, in the mean time UAB Akmeresta, UAB Gruste and a local farmer have already contacted our office in Vilnius requesting further information and assistance while making a concrete business proposition to sell ryegrass to Hungary.
